Just how badly do the Broncos want a new quarterback?

The Denver Broncos made one of the biggest decisions of the offseason so far when they chose to call time on the Russell Wilson era after their blockbuster trade for the former Seattle Seahawk went spectacularly wrong.

That means Sean Payton’s side head into the draft without a starting quarterback and lacking a second-round draft pick. With Wilson’s salary counting against the cap this year, a good rookie crop is needed.

Here’s a look at what we could see from the Broncos draft this week.

Denver Broncos draft picks

  • No. 12 overall (first round)
  • No. 76 overall (third round) (from Miami)
  • No. 121 overall (fourth round)
  • No. 136 overall (fifth round) (from Cleveland)
  • No. 145 overall (fifth round) (from New York Jets)
  • No. 147 overall (fifth round)
  • No. 207 overall (sixth round) (from San Francisco)
  • No. 256 overall (seventh round) (from New York Jets)

Key Needs

As outlined above, quarterback is a major need, even after the Broncos signed Zach Wilson earlier this week. A dynamic pass rusher is also needed, as is help in the interior of the defensive line.

Predictions

Just how badly do the Broncos need a new QB? At number 12 the likes of Caleb Williams, Drake May, Jayden Daniels and J.J. McCarthy will all be off the board. It will be tough to move up and grab one of that quartet, but selecting either Bo Nix or Michael Penix Jr. at 12 would be a stretch.

Perhaps trading back in the first to land Nix or Penix Jr. at the end of that round or the start of the second is a logical move, as that could give them another day two selection in order to grab an edge rusher - Chris Braswell, perhaps?

A tight end would be a logical day three pick, as would help in the secondary.
