Russell Wilson will hit free agency.

Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson will hit free agency. The Denver Broncos will release the veteran quarterback on March 13.

Wilson's release ends a tumultuous and ultimately fruitless two-year spell. In Wilson's first season, the Broncos went 5-12. That dismal record resulted in Nate Hackett's dismissal.

Super Bowl-winning head coach Sean Payton came in last season. The Broncos improved, finishing 8-9, but Payton and Wilson's relationship never clicked.

Wilson ended the 2023-24 season on the bench, and his future looked murky. The former Seattle Seahawk stated last week that he would like to stay in Denver. Wilson was under contract until 2028, but the Broncos have other plans.

GM George Paton and head coach Sean Payton released a statement regarding Wilson's pending release.

Wilson will be free to join a new team. The Broncos will eat $85 million in dead cap money on their salary cap charge for next season.

Denver is likely to look towards the draft for a new quarterback, while Wilson will be eager to find a new team and revive his career.
