Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta breaks multiple records with Week 18 catchgetty
It has been a brilliant rookie campaign for LaPorta.

Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta has had a rookie season to remember, and in Week 18 against the Minnesota Vikings he added his name to the record books.

Midway through the first quarter on 2nd & Goal, LaPorta was left wide open by the Vikings defense to score the opening touchdown of the game and put Detroit 7-0 up.

The catch broke several records, including the tight end rookie reception record as LaPorta made his 82nd grab of the season.

The touchdown was also LaPorta's 10th of the season, joining just Rob Gronkowski and Mike Ditka for double-digit TDs in their tight end rookie season.

Gronkowski had 10 in his 2010 rookie season, while former Chicago Bears tight end Ditka holds the record of 12 - scored back in 1961.

And LaPorta is not the only rookie to have impressed on offense in Detroit this season.

Running back Jahmyr Gibbs also scored in the first quarter against Minnesota for his 11th touchdown of the season.

The duo of Gibbs and LaPorta become the first pair of rookies on the same team to have double digit touchdowns.
