The Detroit Lions improved to 3-1 and perhaps sent a statement to the league by handing the Seattle Seahawks (3-1) their first loss in a 42-29 home win on Monday Night Football.
Headlined by Jared Goff's perfect night with the icing on top, we take a look at five takeaways from the Lions' big victory over the Seahawks:
Jared Goff's perfect night involved some clever deception
How did Goff add a cherry on top of completing 18-of-18 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns?
By hauling in the very first touchdown reception of his career. It came on a beautifully-designed play as wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown floated this pass up into the end zone and into Goff's secure hands.
Goff would later tell ESPN that the Lions had been cooking up that play for some time. Well, what a way to execute it under the national spotlight of a Monday Night Football game and to complement the quarterback's perfect night.
Goff and St. Brown had their sixth sense activated
After St. Brown found Goff in the end zone for an improbable touchdown connection, Goff returned the favor on a quick strike to the wideout for a TD reception in which St. Brown made sure to skillfully drag his feet in bounds to ensure more points on the board for Detroit.
The Lions' backfield is brutally brilliant
Watching the bruising style of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, the Lions' running backs are brutally brilliant complements to each other.
They repeatedly absorb contact, bounce off tacklers and pile on the yardage in hammering fashion.
On Monday night, the tandem combined for 118 yards and three touchdowns rushing on 26 carries as Gibbs punched in two scores and Montgomery one.
These two running backs are an absolute load to deal with for any defense as the Seahawks' just found out.
The Lions' win negated brilliant nights from Geno Smith and Kenneth Walker III
The Seahawks suffered their first defeat of the season but Smith and Walker III absolutely dazzled.
Smith completed a career-high 38-of-56 passes for a whopping 395 passing yards and a touchdown in the loss.
Meanwhile, Walker III rushed for 80 yards and three TDs on 12 carries.
Is there a wide receiver more physical than DK Metcalf?
Metcalf is just unfair. When he's not muscling secondaries around as arguably the most physical wide receiver in the NFL, Metcalf can be seen making finesse plays — like this grab.
The Lions kept him out of the end zone but felt his stronghold on a game as a possession receiver who hauled in seven catches for 104 yards.
