The Pittsburgh Steelers stunned the NFL when they completed a trade for Justin Fields.
The Steelers sent a sixth-round pick from 2025 to Chicago in exchange for Fields' services.
Fields now joins veteran quarterback Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh's revamped quarterback room.
Neither player was on Pittsburgh's roster last year.
While many analysts feel Russell Wilson is the first-choice quarterback, former offensive lineman and three-time Pro Bowler Taylor Lewan disagrees.
Lewan told the Up & Adams show, "No, I don't think Russell Wilson is a lock to start. The Steelers are paying Russell $1.4 million. Justin Fields is a first-round talent, and they gave up a sixth-round pick.
"Unless it is in writing, it's not a done deal that Russell starts. Don't be surprised if we hear positive reports about Fields four days into training camp, and the Steelers hint that it's an open competition."
Furthermore, Lewan expects fierce competition between the two, saying, "These two guys both have chips on their shoulders. And they will only get better with competition."
