Pro Football Hall of Famer and current NFL analyst Shannon Sharpe has weighed in on the debate surrounding the Dallas Cowboys' lack of recruitment in free agency.
The Cowboys have started their recruitment phase in a low-key fashion. Big names have left the team, while they've only signed depth players, not big-time starters.
Many Cowboys fans feel shortchanged, especially after owner Jerry Jones told them the team would go 'all in' on player recruitment.
With fan angst rising, Executive Vice President Stephen Jones spoke to the press on Thursday, saying, "I know where the frustration is; it's the fact that we haven't had success in the playoffs to their satisfaction.
"Until we do that, the criticism will certainly be there. We know that will be there, but we will stick with what we believe will ultimately get us a championship here for our fans.
"We don't define 'all in' by what you spend in free agency. It's keeping the core."
Sharpe discussed Jones' comments on his Nightcap show and said, "Do what you've always done, and you'll get what you've always gotten. I listened to what Jerry said, and I think 'all in' means that they want to re-sign their homegrown players. They want to re-sign Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb.
"When Jerry says 'all in', we all think they'll spend big. But if you look at recent history, they haven't spent big on free agency.
"But if you look at Kansas City, they signed three of their five offensive linemen in free agency. They got Marques Valdez-Scantling in free agency. They got Drue Tranquill, too. But the Cowboys fans want big names."
Sharpe told the fans, "They must understand that 'all in' means re-signing our superstar players. Jerry wants to ensure that Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb stay in Dallas Cowboys uniforms."
