Have the Falcons made a mistake?

Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe has questioned the Atlanta Falcons' acquisition of veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins.

On day one of free agency, the Falcons inked Cousins to a four-year $180 million contract, with $110 million guaranteed.

Many analysts and insiders felt Cousins was the best free-agent quarterback on the market.

However, NFL analyst and host of the Nightcap show Sharpe disagrees. He said, "Kirk Cousins has now made over $300 million in guarantees. All the while, he's won one playoff game. Overall, he's 78-72 in his career.

"I would have bet a pretty penny that Justin Fields would have been a better fit than Cousins. But you understand what you will get with Cousins."

Cousins is returning from an Achilles tear he sustained last season. The 35-year-old is back throwing footballs and moving around on an indoor field.

Sharpe noted this as a potential issue: "You must protect him. He is not a mover. Cousins isn't that, especially coming back from the injury."
