The first Houston Texans vs. New England Patriots match-up in three years goes this Sunday, and it'll take on a bit more importance than a usual early season game as rookie quarterback Drake Maye is set to make his first start for the Pats.
Maye was selected third overall by a New England team still looking to replace Tom Brady after the legendary QB's departure in 2020, and there will be many eyes on former North Carolina Tar Heel as he hopes to become a cornerstone of one of the league's flagship franchises.
But while the Patriots have high hopes for Maye to come out strong in his maiden start, the Texans will be looking to stop the 22-year-old. Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans describes Maye as a "young, athletic quarterback who has a live arm" that could cause his team some problems.
With it being Maye's first start, there's not a lot of information for Ryans to go on in regards to how the Patriots will play with the youngster under center. Regardless, the Texans are 4-1 to start the season with their own young quarterback at the helm and Ryans has confidence that his team will be able to handle whatever Maye and the Pats throw at them.
"We just have to go out and execute our job the proper way, not [worry] so much about them and focusing on what they’re going to do or can do," Ryans said. "They can do a lot of different things. We don’t know that, so we’re just going to focus on ourselves and making sure we execute the details of our job.”
The game will be available in a number of regions for free via NFL Game Pass on DAZN.
