How expensive is a Super Bowl advert?

The Super Bowl is one of the most watched sports events in the world. Super Bowl 57 topped 115 million viewers in America, making it one of the most-watched telecasts in US television history.

Due to the mammoth TV audience, local broadcasters can charge millions for advertising spots. Companies are desperate to advertise their products in front of a vast audience.

For Super Bowl 57, US broadcaster FOX raked in nearly $600 million from advertisements.

This year, CBS and Paramount are the local rights holders for the Super Bowl. They will broadcast the big game. CBS is America's oldest TV station. For the NFL Divisional Round, their broadcast of the Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs game peaked at over 50 million viewers.

This year's game could break viewing records with the added potential of a Taylor Swift-fuelled Super Bowl. And the advertisement costs could climb.

How much could a Super Bowl advert cost?

The Hollywood Reporter and Variety state that CBS has sold over 90% of their in-game advertising slots. They reportedly sought between $6.5 million and $7 million for some of their 30-second spots.

Super Bowl advertisement costs have steadily risen since 2015. With traditional TV seeing declines in viewership, the Super Bowl is becoming increasingly important to advertisers and broadcasters.
