Every NFL team must be below the £255million salary cap when the new league year starts on Wednesday

One of the busiest weeks of the NFL offseason is almost among us.

Monday will see the starter pistol fired on free agency, as the two-day period of legal tampering will begin. The fun and games of free agency will then begin officially on Wednesday when the new league year starts.

But before teams can start wheeling and dealing, they need to ensure that they are under the salary cap.

The cap has increased to a record $255.4million per team for 2024, but there are still a number of franchises that need to trim some money from their rosters in order to be in the black.

Over the past few days, we have seen plenty of players either restructure their current deals or be cut so that teams to meet their financial requirements. More will follow in the coming days, with eight teams still above the cap, at the time of writing.

These teams include a number of Super Bowl contenders and playoff hopefuls, with the list as follows: San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers.

Even those within the cap are likely to do all they can to trim their wage bill and free up space so they can make a splash in free agency next week.

Below is a look at each team’s cap space, as per Sportrac on Friday, March 8.
