The Raiders quarterback was unable to continue against the Patriots.

Week 6 continued to be a dangerous one to traverse for quarterbacks as Las Vegas Raiders signal caller Jimmy Garoppolo exited their game against the New England Patriots.

Garoppolo, an offseason acquisition for the Raiders after leaving the San Francisco 49ers, left the game with a back injury with the Raiders 13-10 up in the third quarter.

The initial injury reports listed Garoppolo with a back injury, and after leaving the field the quarterback was taken to hospital to discover the full extent of the injury.

Garoppolo follows quarterbacks Ryan Tannehill and Justin Fields in having game-ending injuries in Week 6.

Following Garoppolo's departure, veteran quarterback Bryan Hoyer took over for the Raiders.

The 38-year-old also joined the Raiders this offseason after three seasons with the Patriots - who he suddenly found himself throwing against.

Hoyer was undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft before being signed by the Patriots where he has spent eight of his 14 years in the NFL.

Raiders' rookie quarterback Aidan O'Connell - who started their Week 4 loss to the Chargers - will serve as the back-up to Hoyer if Garoppolo remains sidelined.
