Two teams heading in opposite directions meet for "Monday Night Football" this week, as the Chicago Bears travel to Pennsylvania to face the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Bears (3-5) have lost three straight games, including a 38-3 hammering by Tampa Bay on Oct. 24, and have firmly looked second-best in all three losses. It's bad news for a Chicago team playing in a weak division, as the Bears have fallen to third place in the NFC North behind the equally hapless Minnesota Vikings.
Meanwhile, the Steelers (4-3) have rung off three victories in a row after a rough start to the season. A huge reason for their success has been their pass rush, which has been part of a Pittsburgh defence that ranks among the best in the NFL.
Now the Bears' struggling offence goes up against that vaunted Steelers defence, which could become a mismatch if Chicago head coach Matt Nagy isn't able to figure out a way to get rookie quarterback Justin Fields to be more influential than he's been throughout the team's losing skid.
"We need to be able to allow him to get to those parts of his game," Nagy said last week of Fields' ability to scramble with the ball. "[In last week's loss to San Francisco], I thought you saw that. Whether it's a designed run or whether it's, 'Hey, on time and in rhythm, the play's not there, take off,' you saw some of those [last week], too. The more he can do that and the more he can balance and not put too much on his plate with the QB zone reads and stuff and we allow him to play fast, that's a win for our offence, and that's how he's going to grow."
