The Week 16 edition of "Monday Night Football" also doubles as a changing of the guard.

When the Buffalo Bills travel to Foxborough, Mass., to face the New England Patriots, it'll be the Bills (11-3) who enter the game as the newly crowned AFC East champs. It's the first time in a generation that Buffalo can lay claim to a divisional title, thanks in large part to the talents of burgeoning star quarterback Josh Allen.

On the other side of the matchup are the Patriots (6-8), who will be missing the postseason for the first time 2008. In the seasons since, the Pats have been the flagship franchise of the NFL and have claimed 11 straight AFC East crowns (17 of the previous 19) along the way. It was clear very early on that the Tom Brady-less Patriots would be a very different team this year, but New England's fall from grace has been far more rapid than even the biggest Pats haters could've imagined.

Regardless, the Bills are expected to continue rolling with their second win of the season versus New England (Buffalo claimed a 24-21 victory over the Pats in Week 8) — with the No. 2 seed in the AFC in sight.

For the Patriots, the rebuild begins now as head coach Bill Belichick has a pair of low-pressure games to end the season during which he can assess his entire roster. One such possibility is giving more playing time to backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham against the Bills, although weekend reports indicated Cam Newton would get the start.
