The New York Giants have the number six overall pick in this year’s draft.

The New York Giants head into next week’s NFL Draft with one key question mark hanging over their number six overall pick.

Do they draft a new quarterback? Daniel Jones is only 12 months removed from a big-money contract extension, but his injury history and spotty play have made this a very real debate in the Big Apple.

Here’s a look at what to expect from the Giants draft.

New York Giants draft picks

  • No. 6 overall (first round)
  • No. 47 overall (second round) (from Seahawks)
  • No. 70 overall (third round)
  • No. 107 overall (fourth round)
  • No. 166 overall (fifth round) (from 49ers through Panthers)
  • No. 183 overall (sixth round)

Key Needs

Whether or not a quarterback is a key need is up to the Giants brain trust. Jones led the team to a playoff win in 2022 to earn a big new contract but regressed last year before suffering a season-ending injury in Week 8. Drew Lock was signed via free agency, meaning they have an experienced backup.

Elsewhere, a wide receiver is a key priority and a running back is probably needed as Devin Singletary may struggle to fill Saquon Barkley’s shoes on his own. The Giants could also do with bringing down the average age of their offensive line, while on defense depth is needed at tackle, safety and corner.

Predictions

We’ll gamble on the Giants giving Daniel Jones another year to get back to his best. That leaves the door open to potentially take one of the draft’s leading wideouts in Malik Nabers, on the assumption that Marvin Harrison Jr will go in the top five.

A cornerback makes sense in the second round, with the likes of Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Kamari Lassiter or D.J. James sensible options. The third round feels like a good time to grab a running back, as you could see Trey Benson or Braelon Allen still available.

Then how about a developmental quarterback? If Spencer Rattler is available in the fourth round, don’t be surprised if the Giants take a chance on him, before closing their draft out with either a defensive tackle or safety.
