The Jets have the 10th overall pick in Thursday's first round.

Has a season ever ended more quickly than the New York Jets’ 2023 campaign?

The acquisition of Aaron Rodgers to an already-talented roster was supposed to vault Robert Saleh’s side into Super Bowl contention, but that went up in flames after four offensive plays.

Rodgers is set to return from his Achilles injury for the start of the new season and with a decent free agent haul this year, the team could further set themselves up for success with a good draft.

We take a look at how the Jets’ draft weekend could pan out.

New York Jets draft picks

No. 10 overall (first round)
No. 72 overall (third round)
No. 111 overall (fourth round)
No. 135 overall (fourth round) (from Baltimore)
No. 185 overall (sixth round)
No. 203 overall (sixth round) (from Denver)
No. 257 overall (seventh round) (compensatory)

Key Needs

There are not too many holes in the Jets’ roster, but wide receiver depth is needed, meaning the Jets can take advantage of a deep pass-catching crop this year.

A running back is needed behind second-year Israel Abanikanda, while an offensive tackle remains a need as the free agent signings of Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses are not long-term solutions.

A safety is needed on defense after Jordan Whitehead left in free agency.

Predictions

Tight end Brock Bowers at 10 has been the consensus pick in recent mock drafts, and it’s a pick that makes sense. Bowers is a polished prospect who would be higher off the board in most years and would quickly be an effective weapon for Rodgers.

Although the Jets have no second-round pick, there should still be a wide receiver option in the third, with the likes of Ricky Pearsall, Malachi Corley or Javon Baker potentially available.

A serviceable running back should be available on day three and the team would also be wise to select a rookie quarterback, given Rodgers and his back-up Tyrod Taylor have a combined age of 75 years old.
