Win, and you're in the Super Bowl. That was the mantra heading into the "Championship Sunday" matchups between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Green Bay Packers in the NFC title game and the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Buffalo Bills on the AFC side, with the winners meeting at Super Bowl LV on Sunday, Feb. 7 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., home of the Bucs.
We are getting the matchup the world wants to see as the Buccaneers and Tom Brady will meet Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. You have the guy most football and sports fans feel is the best player of all time in Brady facing the player many feel is Brady's heir apparent in Mahomes.
In the opening game, Brady led the Buccaneers past the Packers 31-26. Brady went 20 of 36 for 280 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Brady heads to his tenth Super Bowl but his first with the Buccaneers. This is the first time the Bucs head to the Super Bowl since 2003, when they beat the Oakland Raiders to capture Super Bowl XXXVII.
Then the Chiefs held up their end of the bargain, defeating the Bills 38-24. Patrick Mahomes was sensational, going 29 of 38 for 325 yards along with three touchdowns. Travis Kelce was the recipient of those completions, nabbing 13 balls for 118 yards and two touchdowns to help the Chiefs advance to their second consecutive Super Bowl as they look to win back-to-back championships.
The Chiefs and Bucs met in Week 12 with the former winning 27-24. Brady and Mahomes have squared off four times with each guy winning twice.
You may be wondering who the last team was to win consecutive Super Bowls?
That would be the New England Patriots who won Super Bowl XXXVIII and XXXIX.
Who was the quarterback for the Patriots? Tom Brady.
