The new year couldn't start any better for NFL fans, with 14 games on the docket.
As January 1, 2023 falls on a Sunday, New Year's Day will feature the usual slate of games for that day of the week. Sunday's games will go a long way toward completing the playoff picture, with five postseason spots still up for grabs and just one more week remaining in the regular season.
Among the playoff contenders are the Detroit Lions, who host the woeful Chicago Bears at 1 p.m. ET. The Lions enter Sunday seeded ninth in the NFC, within touching distance of the final playoff spot (currently held by the seventh-place Washington Commanders.
Another team in a similar situation to the Lions are the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are one of four teams in the AFC with a 7-8 record. A victory over the Baltimore Ravens on "Sunday Night Football" would give them a chance to break away from the pack chasing the last two AFC playoff berths.
