It’s not long now until we know how the 2024 NFL schedule will look.
The first two matches of the upcoming season have already been revealed, with the Kansas City Chiefs kicking the new campaign off when they host the Baltimore Ravens in a rematch of the 2023 AFC Championship game on Thursday, September 5.
The following day will then see Brazil host its first-ever NFL game, when the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Green Bay Packers in Sao Paulo.
But with the other 270 matches set to be revealed on Wednesday, what are the big games that fans will be looking out for?
Kansas City Chiefs at San Francisco 49ers
At some point this season we will get a rematch of February’s Super Bowl, with the 49ers out for some sort of revenge when they host the Chiefs at Levi’s Stadium.
Both teams have kept onto the core of their rosters since the overtime clash in Las Vegas earlier this year are expected to be contenders once again.
Baltimore Ravens at Los Angeles Chargers
Jim Harbaugh returns to the NFL after a nine-season stint in the college game with Michigan and as luck would have it, he will have a game against his brother John this season.
The two brothers famously faced off in Super Bowl XLVII when John’s Ravens pipped Jim’s 49ers to the Vince Lombardi trophy in New Orleans, with the clash being dubbed the Har-bowl. Expect plenty of media attention ahead of that one.
Chicago Bears at Washington Commanders
The two teams who had the first two picks in last month’s draft are scheduled to play this season, meaning we could get an early Caleb Williams vs Jayden Daniels clash.
If the two rookie quarterbacks meet the lofty expectations that are being placed on them, then this could be the first chapter in a notable rivalry that could shape the NFL for years to come.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos
There are a fair few quarterback ‘revenge’ games due to be played this season. We should see Kirk Cousins heading back to Minnesota with the Falcons and Derek Carr up against his former Raiders side with the Saints, but the Steelers-Broncos clash should have more edge than the others.
This should see Russell Wilson heading back to Denver, after the Broncos called time on what will go down as one of the worst trades in recent history when they cut him in March.
Former Super Bowl winner Wilson landed on his feet in Pittsburgh and will be keen to show the Denver fans that his improved play last season was not a blip.
Christmas Day double-header
For just the third time in the modern-day NFL, we will see games being played on a Wednesday, due to the fact that Christmas Day happens to be on a Wednesday in 2024.
The NFL will be gifting fans a double-header on Christmas Day in what could be a fascinating clash. The league will no doubt be wanting to make a splash with a big pair of games, but the midweek clash could present a headache to any contenders at the business end of the season.
