The Kansas City Chiefs are playing in a sixth straight AFC Championship match.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes says his opposite number on Sunday, Lamar Jackson, is going to be the MVP for the 2023 NFL season.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Jackson is hotly tipped to win the award, but the official announcement has not yet been made.

Two-time MVP Mahomes will lead his Chiefs out for a sixth straight AFC Championship game this Sunday, but unlike in past seasons they are the underdog going into the match.

The Ravens are the number one seeds in the AFC and many people's choice to win the Super Bowl next month.

Speaking at the press conferences ahead of Sunday's game, Mahomes had plenty of praise for their upcoming opponents.

"I've admired watching him [Jackson] from afar and know that it's gonna be a great challenge for us every time we go up against him," said Mahomes.

"He's going to be the MVP for a reason. He goes out there, he leads his team, he scores, he runs, he throws. He does whatever it takes to win, and that's what the greats do.

"The way he's able to just be a competitor and score the football, obviously, and then their entire team - it's a tall task. You've got to go out there and play your best football."
