A week after Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs defeated Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in a high-profile matchup between star quarterbacks and their elite teams, Kansas City was set for a similar duel in Week 4.
Unfortunately for the New England Patriots, QB Cam Newton tested positive for the coronavirus, and Sunday's originally scheduled contest was pushed back to Monday night.
So the Patriots will face the defending Super Bowl champs without their leader, making an already challenging task even tougher. Yes, the Chiefs also had a player test positive for coronavirus, but missing practice-squad QB Jordan Ta'amu isn't exactly crucial to the Chiefs' game plan.
Newton's absence likely means Brian Hoyer steps in and takes the snaps for the Patriots. While not as dynamic as Newton, Hoyer presents a steady option that can steer the ship while Newton recovers.
Against the Chiefs, however, "steady" may not be enough.
