The Cam Newton era in New England officially begins Sunday.
Just a few hours before Tom Brady debuts as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer, Newton will usher in a new reign as the Patriots' starting quarterback. It'll be strange to see a different QB taking snaps for the Pats, but Netwon's athleticism should be a breath of fresh air for the franchise as it undergoes a significant shift for the 2020 season.
New England not only lost Brady to Tampa Bay, but it also has a league-high eight players who decided to opt out of the campaign. It'll be a juggling act for Bill Belichick and his coaching staff, but the Pats are a team that continues to find a way to create success year after year.
On the other side of the field, the Dolphins are coming off a horrible campaign and have nowhere to go but up. Ryan Fitzpatrick remains the No. 1 QB for Miami despite the presence of Tua Tagovailoa, who was taken fifth overall in this year's draft.
The Dolphins can hang their hat on a much-improved late-season surge in 2019, in which all five wins were claimed during the final nine weeks of play (including a Week 17 victory over New England). If that kind of momentum can carry over into Week 1 of the new campaign, Newton and the Patriots could be in for a long afternoon at Gillette Stadium.
