If familiarity breeds contempt, then the Philadephia Eagles and New York Giants have plenty of hate between them ahead of their Week 7 clash.
The NFC East foes renew their longstanding rivalry on Sunday for the first time in the 2024 NFL season, with the Eagles now boasting a prominent former Giant on their roster. Running back Saquon Barkley, drafted by the Giants in 2018, signed a three-year deal with Philadelphia over the offseason and has looked like his old self with 5.3 yards per carry and four touchdowns so far, although he has been kept out of the end zone in his last two games.
That Barkley has performed well with the Giants' biggest rival has gone down predictably with the New York fan base, who are expected to give the 27-year-old a hostile welcome at MetLife Stadium.
Even the Giants' players, most of whom played alongside Barkley at some point during his six-year tenure at the Meadowlands, are looking forward to giving the two-time Pro Bowler a tough reception on home turf.
“Honestly, I think he did a lot of good for this organization,” defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence said. “But, we've got some tough fans and they're going to bring him in however they feel is right by them.
"I appreciate what he did for this organization and who he was as a teammate and a person to me, most importantly. But, Sunday is war and he knows that.”
