Russell Wilson's move to the Pittsburgh Steelers kick-started NFL free agency with a bang.
The veteran quarterback hit the market after the Denver Broncos released him. Needing a quarterback, the Steelers pounced, snapping Wilson up on a one-year deal worth $1.2 million.
Former Tennessee Titans star and host of the Bussin With The Boys Podcast, Taylor Lewan, appeared on today's Up & Adams show to analyse Wilson's move.
Lewan played for Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith in Tennessee. Moreover, he spent nearly a decade playing in the NFL, giving him a solid insight into the situation.
Lewan said, "It is a low risk for the Steelers. They are paying the veteran minimum for Wilson. I think it's the perfect storm for Russell Wilson. I'm not his biggest fan.
"However, I assume that in Seattle, he thought he became bigger than the team with his success. He had the celebrity wife, he had the endorsements, and I know the Denver situation humbled him. I spoke with a few guys at Denver who said that Russell apologised to them for his behaviour."
Lewan pivoted, talking about how Arthur Smith would use Wilson: "Having Arthur is a big win. He can set up amazing game plans, and they will run the ball with Najee Harris.
"There won't be as much pressure on Russ. And Mike Tomlin has a history of managing unique personalities and ensuring they thrive. This is a big win for the Steelers."
