Changes to the way kick-offs work in the NFL has got teams rethinking their tactics on special teams.
From the start of the 2024 season, players on a kicking team will be unable to move until the ball touches the receiver or the ground.
Creating new plays and ideas to adapt to the rule change makes sense, but the Steelers are considering an unprecidented idea according to running back Jaylen Warren.
Speaking on Cam Heyward's Not Just Football podcast, Warren says the Steelers are looking at using quarterback Justin Fields as a returner.
Over the last few seasons, Fields has proven himself to be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL at picking up rushing yards.
However, kick returners are involved in some of the sport's biggest collisions, and using a quarterback in such a role would raise a lot of eyebrows.
The decision would be doubly stange for the Steelers, who have kick return specialists Cordarrelle Patterson and Calvin Austin on the roster already.
"I think the new rules are pretty good," said Warren.
"As soon as you touch the ball, that's when everything starts to happen.
"Our special teams coordinator was talking about Justin Fields being back there.
We're like, 'Hold up, hold up.' We looked at him like, 'Justin Fields is about to be back there?'
"I don't know. I think it's cool!"
