Russell Wilson's future as a member of the Denver Broncos is unclear, and on Tuesday head coach Sean Payton stoked the proverbial fires as rumours of unrest between player and coach persist.
Wilson has repeatedly stated his desire to continue his career in Denver, reiterating his stance this week on a podcast with former NFL player Brandon Marshall.
However, Payton met with members of the media at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday and did little to dispel reports of Wilson's impending departure from the Broncos, referencing a social media post as he addressed his team's QB situation.
According to the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Payton referred to a meme he saw recently "with a guy wearing a jersey and a bunch of QB names crossed off."
“Our job is to make sure this next one doesn’t have a line through it,” Payton said.
The choice wording by Payton prompted a follow-up by the Broncos coach, who added that the team will make a decision on Wilson's future within the next two weeks.
Wilson joined the Broncos ahead of the 2022 season, after 10 years as the starter for the Seattle Seahawks.
