The Seattle Seahawks are set to release former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams as they look to free up salary cap space under new head coach Mike Macdonald.
Adams joined the Seahawks in 2020 as part of a blockbuster trade that saw Seattle ship two first-round draft picks to the New York Jets before handing the 28-year-old a lucrative £72million contract extension.
But the NFL Network report that Adams, alongside fellow safety Quandre Diggs and tight end Will Dissly will be released ahead of the start of free agency next week.
Diggs and Dissly’s departures will free up almost $18million in cap space, while Adams’ exit would be a $7.3million saving as a pre-June 1 cut, or if it is a post-June 1 cut it would save $17million off the cap, but that added space will not be able to be used in the first tranche of free agency movement.
Adams joined the Seahawks in 2020 on the back of a first-team All-Pro season and would earn Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro selections in his first year in Seattle, but his form would soon dip.
Diggs joined the Seahawks in 2019 after four-and-a-half seasons with the Detroit Lions and has been a regular starter, making the Pro Bowl in his first three years with the team and signing a three-year $40million extension in March 2022. Dissley’s six campaigns in Seattle saw him haul in 127 catches for 1,431 yards and 13 touchdowns.
