The San Francisco 49ers are at home this week with an eye on snapping their three-game losing streak — and they'll have the help of their starting quarterback.
Jimmy Garoppolo appears to be in line for a return after leaving the 49ers' loss to Seattle with a calf injury three weeks ago. The 29-year-old only just returned to practicing earlier this week, but the Niners seem assured that he'll be able to start against the Indianapolis Colts on "Sunday Night Football."
"Jimmy's doing really well," 49ers general manager John Lynch said on the Murph & Mac show. "He's done a great job coming back from that calf contusion that he got versus Seattle. And he did a nice job of rehab, and he stuck around the bye week, as did Trey [Lance] because they were both hurting."
Backup QB Lance performed well in Garoppolo's absence, throwing for for 157 yards and two touchdowns against the Seahawks before racking up 192 passing yards and 89 rushing yards in his first start against Arizona in Week 5. Both games were losses, of course, but Lance still showed he was ready to step in without being overwhelmed, so having Garoppolo be able to return just as Lance looks unable to play due to a knee sprain is a stroke of luck in a 49ers season without too many of them so far.
