The New York Giants head into Week 15 amid a bit of a renaissance.
After losing the first five games of the season, the Giants (5-8) managed a four-game winning streak among its most recent eight contests to put themselves into the playoff conversation. Despite its recent resurgence, New York will host the Cleveland Browns (9-4) on "Sunday Night Football" on the back of a bad loss and more bad news.
It was announced Thursday that Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett tested positive for COVID-19 and will be away from the team as he self-isolates. While Garrett worked remotely in the days since his diagnosis, he won't be on the sidelines to call offensive plays — tight ends coach Freddie Kitchens will assume Garrett's duties on Sunday.
While the loss of a single coach isn't backbreaking for a team, the Giants haven't exactly been offensive juggernauts this season. Even during their four-game win streak, they only averaged 21.5 points per game as it was their defence that did the heavy lifting.
Now, with Garrett's absence, the Giants will attempt to outscore a Browns team that topped 40 points in each of its last two outings. As tough a prospect as that is, New York's season may depend on it.
