Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach outlines quarterback plans for preseasonDAZN
The quarterback competition is set to be an exciting one at Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Mike Flores has explained his team's quarterback plans for preseason.

The Buccaneers begin their preparations for the 2023 season on Friday against the Pittsburgh Steelers and will look to cement their plans under centre following Tom Brady's retirement earlier this year.

Baker Mayfield is the standout name in the quarterback room after joining the franchise on a one-year deal after being released by the Los Angeles Rams.

Mayfield is now hoping to salvage his career in Florida, but he is set to face tough competition from Kyle Trask.

Speaking on Wednesday, Flores revealed that Mayfield will be starting against the Steelers, while Trask will start in next week's preseason game with the New York Jets.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, who was speaking at the Buccaneers training camp explained the situation and is not surprised by Mayfield being given the start in the preseason opener.

"Baker probably has the inside track here at being the starting quarterback just considering the money that he's making, the sort of fanfare of his signing and, you know, where he's been in the NFL and the experience that he's had," Rapoport said.

While Trask, who was a second round pick in the 2021 draft, has had very little playing experience, he is already showing signs of improvement in the battle for the starting spot with Mayfield, and now Buccaneers fans will be keeping a close eye on the quarterback battle as the regular season edges closer.
