The five most famous Super Bowl television commercials

The five most famous Super Bowl television commercialsGetty
The Super Bowl has become known for its memorable commercials.

The Super Bowl has become known for not just being the biggest NFL game of the season.

The showpiece event has become an entertainment extravaganza with numerous musical performances including the famous halftime show, but for fans watching at home, one of the things they will look forward to is the television commercials.

A 30-second commerical slot during the Super LVII broadcast cost on average $7m and as expected, advertisers go all in, whether it be using celebrity casts or outside-the-box ideas to promote brands.

DAZN takes a look at five of the most famous Super Bowl commercials.

Apple - 1984 (1984)

Apple's commercial for the Macintosh computer during Super Bowl XVIII is a perfect example of using Hollywood royalty.

The tech giant employed director Ridley Scott to create this commercial who used George Orwell's novel 1984 as inspiration.

Since it was aired, many other companies have gone onto use some of Hollywood's best visionaries to create their Super Bowl commercials, but Apple's has always been held in high regard and can be watched here

Old Spice - The Man Your Man Could Smell Like (2010)

Old Spice's "The Man Your Man Could Smell Like" has undergone numerous iterations down the years, but not many know that the orignal was actually broadcast during Super Bowl XLIV.

Since then it has become a staple of modern advertising with the same actor featuring in numerous versions of the iconic commercial, which just shows the power being a part of the Super Bowl broadcast can have.

Nike - Hare Jordan (1993)

One way to make sure your Super Bowl commercial stands out from the crowd is by getting Michael Jordan, one of America's most famous athletes, to star alongside cartoon character Bugs Bunny.

Nike did just that for Super Bowl XXVIII with their commercial seeing Jordan and Bugs Bunny team up to defeat a group an evil basketball team whilst wearing the new Air Jordans.

The commercial, which can be watched here, is believed to have inspired the 1996 film Space Jam starring Michael Jordan.

Snickers - Betty White (2010)

This commercial starred comedy legend Betty White and created the iconic tagline "You're not you when you're hungry".

Airing during Super Bowl XLIV, the phrase has become synonymous with Snickers and this does not look like it will change anytime soon.

Amazon - Alexa Loses Her Voice (2018)

Amazon's commercial for Super Bowl LII entertained the idea of Alexa losing her voice.

In the commercial, founder Jeff Bezos is told a host of replacements are ready to fill the void and it was a celebrity all star cast.

Gordon Ramsay, Rebel Wilson, Cardi B and Anthony Hopkins all feature, but it's safe to say that they struggle when it comes to answering any questions asked by users.
