Every team strives for consistency, and Baker Mayfield has been just that for the Cleveland Browns.
The quarterback had started 51 straight games for the Browns through this week, but a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder means that Mayfield will be sidelined for Cleveland's "Thursday Night Football" matchup with the visiting Denver Broncos. The 26-year-old suffered the injury on Sept. 19 and continued to play in subsequent games despite doctors reportedly advising him against it.
Things came to a head in Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals, with Mayfield aggravating the injury to the point that it has become impossible for the QB to play on Thursday. In his stead will be Case Keenum, who's set to start an NFL game for the first time since 2019.
Keenum has the "full confidence" of Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, and the veteran pivot feels the same about his own abilities.
"I feel very ready," Keenum told reporters. "I've been ready. You don't have to get ready if you stay ready."
Another thing that has been consistent is the Broncos' domination of this matchup. Denver's lost to the Browns just once since 1990, and Broncos linebacker Von Miller vows to do everything in his power to keep up the winning vibes for the Colorado team.
"I'm going to go off. It's going to be a good game for me," Miller told media on Tuesday, via Broncos reporter Aric DiLalla. "I'm going to have a great game. I'm going to go out there, and I'm going to play well and get a couple [of] sacks."
Miller added: "I don't know who the [offensive] tackle is that I'm going against, but I'm going to kill him. I'm going to kill him. And the other guy too, on the other side. And I'm going to play extremely well and I'm going to make plays for my team."
