It's been a rough start to the season for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Florida team has dropped its first three games of the season, falling to an 0-3 start despite glimpses of potential from rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The 21-year-old arrived in the NFL with great fanfare, but he quickly learned the scope of the project in Jacksonville when, in Week 1, he lost his first-ever regular season game at any level from high school onward.
Lawrence and the Jags then dropped the next two games, with the young pivot showing growing pains alongside his struggling team.
Now, Jacksonville gets the honour of a "Thursday Night Football" game, travelling to Cincinnati to take on a Bengals team that enters Week 4 atop the AFC North. The Browns prevailed 33-25 in their most recent meeting with the Jags just under a year ago as running back Joe Mixon had his way with the Jacksonville defence en route to a three-touchdown night.
If Jacksonville's going to have any success this time around, stopping Mixon will be key.
"We're going to have our hands full," Jaguars defensive coordinator Joe Cullen said of Mixon. "He's as good a back as there is in this league. I played him, the last five years, twice in the same division [as defensive line coach of the Baltimore Ravens]. When he's steamrolling and going, he's as good as they get.
"We're going to have to gang tackle him. He can get the ball on the perimeter, he can slash, he can cut back. He's not a one-cut guy, but he gets downhill, lowers his shoulders and he can run you over. We're going to have to get population to the football on him."
