Can Mike White do it again?
White had the best-ever first start by a quarterback for the New York Jets in last week's come-from-behind 34-31 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, throwing for 405 yards (on 37/45 passing) as the Jets erased an 11-point deficit inside the final five minutes of the game. It was a thrilling debut as a starter for White, who filled in for the injured Zach Wilson.
Now the scene shifts to "Thursday Night Football" at Lucas Oil Stadium, where the Jets (2-5) will face the Indianapolis Colts (3-5) with a chance to again put on a show, this time with the entirety of the football world watching.
"We're going to go out there with the same exact mindset," White said in the immediate aftermath of the win against the Bengals. "I know it sounds corny, but it's the truth. Coming in [Monday], we had the same mindset as we did last week coming in after the Patriots game [two weeks ago]. We have to close the book on this game, and especially with a short week, there's a lot of work to be done in a little amount of time. It helps after a win because guys are in a great mood and the energy in the building is better, but there's still work to be done."
The Jets are coming up against a Colts team with just one home win in four tries this season. Indianapolis will be eager to give the home fans something to cheer about, and the Jets feel the Colts' strategy will be simple.
"They see ball, get ball, hit ball," wide receiver Keelan Cole said of the Colts.
Will it be enough to derail the Mike White train?
