The Green Bay Packers are off to a great start to the 2021 NFL season, but the Arizona Cardinals are off to an even better one.
With Aaron Rodgers apparently having the time of his life with the 6-1 Packers after a tumultuous offseason, everything seems in place for Green Bay to make another run at a Super Bowl. However, the red-hot Cardinals will likely have something to say about that, and their 7-0 start to the campaign gives them every right to feel like favourites when the teams go head-to-head for "Thursday Night Football" this week.
In what could by an NFC Championship preview, the venerable Rodgers faces off with 24-year-old Kyler Murray in a battle of quarterbacks currently at the top of the NFL heap.
"“He’s a talented guy and there’s a lot of guys that are doing what he’s doing and they can attack you in so many ways when you got a guy like that,” Rodgers said of Murray on the Pat McAfee Show earlier this week. “He’s talented, arm talent is fantastic."
The admiration is a two-way street, with Murray recently calling the 37-year-old Rodgers his "favourite quarterback."
"I admire his game a lot," Murray said of the Green Bay pivot, who he'll face for the first time on Thursday. "First time playing against him, first time being able to meet him. It’s pretty cool, I’m looking forward to it."
While the admiration between quarterbacks is real, it won't stop both teams from doing whatever they can to stop the other.
Green Bay enters Thursday on a six-game winning streak, the second-longest current run in the NFL behind that of the Cardinals. Barring a miracle, one of those streaks in ending.
