"Thursday Night Football" returns after a one-week hiatus, with the New England Patriots travelling to California to take on the Los Angeles Rams.
The Patriots (6-6) have turned things around after a miserable stretch that included all of October and the first week of November, during which they dropped four straight games. They've since returned to their winning ways, claiming victories in four of their past five contests.
It was the latest win that was the most stunning for the Pats as they decimated the Los Angeles Chargers 45-0 on Sunday. It's the kind of domination that can provide a significant morale boost to a team on the playoff bubble, which New England most certainly is.
Now the Pats will face the other LA team when they visit SoFi Stadium to take on the Rams (8-4), who have been neck-and-neck with the Seattle Seahawks at the top of the NFC West for much of the season.
The Rams are coming off a victory of their own, a 38-28 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. In that matchup, quarterback Jared Goff was an efficient 37/47 with 351 passing yards, a touchdown pass, a rushing TD and no interceptions. Despite his big output, Goff is still drawing calls by some in the media to be traded away.
“I know you can’t get rid of [Goff]. Way too much money,” legendary former QB Terry Bradshaw said on "Fox NFL Sunday" of the Rams pivot, who signed a four-year, $134 million contract extension in 2019. "But there’s a quarterback out there named Matthew Stafford and if you could, I would make a move. Get rid of the one guy, bring in Stafford."
Another big outing by Goff could go a long way in changing the minds of Bradshaw and other critics, but New England's recent results indicate that it could be a tough ask for the beleaguered QB.
