The Chargers and Raiders square off on 'TNF'.

The new week of NFL action kicks off Thursday when the Los Angeles Chargers travel to Nevada to face the Las Vegas Raiders in an all-AFC West matchup.

Along with the Denver Broncos, both teams have been overshadowed by the undisputed giants of the division: the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chargers (4-9) have been mired at the bottom of the AFC West for most of the season, with losses to all three divisional rivals among their mounting number of defeats in the campaign.

In the previous meeting between the two teams, the Chargers fell 31-26 to the Raiders (7-6). The Nov. 8 matchup actually saw Los Angeles gain more total yards than Las Vegas (440-320), but penalties allowed the Raiders to come away with the victory.

The Raiders have been more bad than good since that Week 9 victory, allowing 32.4 points per game in five outings (38.3 PPG in their last three games). They'll also be without rookie receiver Henry Ruggs III, as the 21-year-old was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list earlier this week.

Ruggs isn't a massive loss — he ranks first in yards per catch among rookies (18.0) but has only scored two touchdowns in 11 games — but Raiders coach Jon Gruden feels the youngster is a big part of the team's overall offence as Ruggs' speed isn't easily ignored.

"The threat of Ruggs III is prevalent when he's on the grass," Gruden said of the rookie earlier this season. "We're going to get him the ball more, but right now we're more interested in trying to find ways to win than trying to fuel somebody's stats. We're really pleased with Ruggs III and excited about him being here."
