Top 10 Recent Heisman-Winning quarterbacks: Where does Joe Burrow land?DAZN
Joe Burrow is the latest Hesiman-winning QB to reach the Super Bowl, but where does he rank among some of the best to win the award in the modern era.

Joe Burrow, Kyler Murray and Lamar Jackson, all three NFL quarterbacks have lifted the Heisman trophy, College Football's most prestigious award.

But where do they rank amongst the best in the modern era to have claimed the prize.

DAZN News counts down the top 10 from worst to best.

No. 10: Johnny Manziel

Drafted in the first round of the 2014 by the Cleveland Browns, there was hope 'Johnny Football' could become the new face of the franchise.

However, these hopes were soon dashed after Manziel lasted all but two years at FirstEnergy before being let go.

No. 9: Sam Bradford

Expectations were high for Sam Bradford when he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in 2010.

The number one overall pick showed some promise in his rookie season, but failed to live up to the hype.

After five years in St. Louis, Bradford was drafted to the Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings before ending his career at the Arizona Cardinals in 2018.

No. 8: Robert Griffin III

GriffinIII_Washington

After winning offensive rookie of the year in 2012, Robert Griffin III had potentially started a road to greatness under centre.

His ability to both throw and run for TDs was a key component in Washington's run into the postseason, but a knee injury in the playoffs derailed his playing career and he was never able to post numbers similar to that in his rookie season.

No. 7: Marcus Mariota

MarcusMariota_Titans

Number two overall pick Marcus Mariota was the second Heisman-winning QB to be drafted in 2014 after Jameis Winston.

Fates collided in the first week of that particular season when Mariota's Tennessee Titans faced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a game which saw Mariota become the first player in the Super Bowl era to have a perfect passer rating in his first career start.

Since then his career was a rollercoaster with the lowest point coming in 2017 where the Titans reached the playoffs, despite Mariota throwing more interceptions than TDs.

No. 6: Jameis Winston

Jameis Winston's career as an NFL QB got off to a promising start when he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015, breaking franchise records for passing TDs and yards.

However, while Winston threw plenty of TDs, he was also prone to turnovers. The 28-year-old threw 88 interceptions during his five years in Tampa with 30 of those coming in 2019 which marked the end of his time in Florida.

Winston is now looking to rebuild his career at the New Orleans Saints.

No. 5: Baker Mayfield

After becoming the number one overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Baker Mayfield had a huge task on his hands at the Cleveland Browns.

He was joining a team which had a 1-31 record over the previous two seasons, but Mayfield made an immediate impact, steering the Browns to 6-7 in his rookie season.

Mayfield then helped the Browns end their 18-year exile from the playoffs in 2021.

With time certainly on his side at 26-years-old, Browns fans will be hoping Mayfield can take them one step further and win a Super Bowl.

No. 4: Kyler Murray

Going number one overall in 2019, Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray has become one of the NFL's most exciting names under centre.

Standing at just 5' 10", Murray hasn't let his size affect his game, throwing for more than 11,000 passing yards through his first three seasons.

Murray was a candidate for the 2021 MVP award, but found himself out of the running after the Cardinals' season ended on a whimper following a 34-11 wildcard loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

No. 3: Joe Burrow

It's safe to say Joe Burrow has transformed the Cincinnati Bengals since he was drafted as the number one overall pick in  2020.

Even though his debut season was cut short by injury, he has continued to improve the Bengals year on year, and now has helped the franchise to its first Super Bowl since 1988 following a thrilling 27-24 overtime win against the Kansas City Chiefs.

No. 2: Lamar Jackson

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson already has plenty of personal accolades to his name, including 2016's Heisman Trophy and the NFL's MVP award in 2019, and after four years in the NFL, he is constantly breaking records.

For example, in just 48 games Jackson rushed for 3,000 yards, that's quicker than any other QB in history.

No. 1: Cam Newton

CamNewton_Carolina

Cam Newton joins Joe Burrow in being the only player on this list to reach a Super Bowl.

Newton win the NFL's MVP award in 2015 where he lead the Carolina Panthers to Super Bowl 50 before losing to the Denver Broncos.

A string of injuries followed and unfortunately for Newton, he has struggled to make himself a premier QB talent in recent years.
