After taking down one future Hall of Fame quarterback last week, Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will look to do so again versus Aaron Rodgers' Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship on Sunday.
Brady is himself a lock for Canton when he finally decides to hang them up, but for now, the 43-year-old is aiming for yet another berth in the Super Bowl — this time with the Bucs. Tampa Bay earned their way into Sunday's matchup by defeating Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in the divisional round, 30-20, on the back of Brady's 199-yard, two-touchdown performance.
While the Q.B. gets all the headlines, the Bucs' defense did their part by nabbing three interceptions from Brees and allowing Brady to orchestrate the comeback victory.
Now the opposition gets even tougher, as the Packers have been near unstoppable all season, and Rodgers has been playing perhaps the best football of his illustrious career. After racking up the best regular-season record in the NFC, the Packers stormed past the L.A. Rams, 32-18, in last week's divisional-round to show that they were not rusty despite the one-week bye.
Rodgers' 296 passing yards, two-touchdown performance (with a rushing T.D., to boot) last week was of the high standard the 37-year-old has set for himself all season long. The only way for Rodgers to make this campaign a truly historic one is to lift another Vince Lombardi Trophy, and Brady stands in the way of that achievement.
Knowing that Brady's Bucs claimed this season's only other meeting — a 38-10 drubbing on Oct. 18 — provides that much more motivation for Rodgers and Co.
Somehow, this will be the first time the two Q.B.s will face off in a playoff game. With a Super Bowl berth on the line, the stakes have never been higher in this clash of legends.
