DAZN explains the role of a defensive tackle.

A defensive tackle is not the most glamorous position in the NFL, but it is an important one nonetheless.

While other players on defense are pre-occupied with covering receivers on a play, the defensive tackles are likely to be the ones in the best position to stop offensive plays at their source whether that be stopping the run or putting pressure on the quarterback.

But what does a defensive tackle do during an NFL game? DAZN explains.

What is a defensive tackle?

A defensive tackle is a player who is lined up on the line of scrimmage in the defensive line.

They will be competing with the offensive guards and center on the opposing offense.

What are the responsibilities of a defensive tackle?

A defensive tackle's main responsibilities are to put pressure on the quarterback and stop offensive players who are heading towards the line of scrimmage.

The nose tackle, who lines up next to the ball, is the leader of the defensive line and is the most important player when it comes to stopping the run.
