The rookie burst back onto the scene in Week 9.

After a few disappointing years, the Houston Texans have more than a few reasons to be cheerful in 2023.

In rookie C.J. Stroud they look to have found their new long-term franchise quarterback, and he has led them to a 4-4 start - good enough for second place in the AFC South.

It has not been just Stroud who has impressed, rookie wide receiver Nathaniel 'Tank' Dell has also played a big role so far in 2023.

But who is Tank Dell? DAZN takes a look.

Bumpy start to college career

Dell played his first year of college football at Alabama A&M despite originally committing to Florida International University.

In four games he had just 12 receptions - though three were touchdowns - before transferring to Independence Community College in Kansas.

Dell spent one year at Independence, notching up 52 receptions for 766 yards and eight touchdowns, before moving again to the University of Houston.

At Houston, Dell started to strut his stuff. After a modest first year in 2020, Dell showed what he was all about in 2021 with 90 receptions, 1,329 receiving yards with 12 touchdowns

And things got even better in 2022, as the wide receiver totalled 109 catches for 1,398 yards and an eye-watering 17 touchdowns.

A day two pick in the NFL draft

After impressing at the University of Houston, it was fitting that the Houston Texans be the team to select Dell - who turned 24 last week.

The wide receiver - who is smaller than average for the position at just 5'10" - fell to the third round before being selected 69th overall by the Texans.

Dell's selection made him the ninth wide receiver taken in the draft and the first University of Houston player selected.

Rollercoaster start to NFL life

After a three-reception start in Week 1, Dell exploded on the scene in Week 2 with a 7-72-1 line which got people's attention.

Another huge performance followed in Week 3, as Dell caught five passes for 145 yards and another touchdown.

However, five quiet weeks followed for the rookie, who had been dealing with injury at the time.

That all ended in Week 9, as Stroud targeted Dell on 11 occasions, catching six for 114 yards and two touchdowns.

The second touchdown was a game-winner against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as Dell helped Stroud work the ball the length of the field with under a minute remaining.

If Dell and Stroud can link up like they did in Week 9 on a consistent basis, the Texans will have a bright future.
