British fighter added to €1 million MMA tournamentDAZN
There's massive competition at lightweight.

Akonne Wanliss has been added to the OKTAGON MMA competition that carries a €1 million prize pot.

Wanliss (7-2) is the solo English fighter competing in OKTAGON MMA’s €1 million Tipsport Gamechanger Tournament. He will take on Swedish fighter Sahil Siraj (9-2) in the first round.

The tournament sees 16 of Europe’s best lightweight fighters compete to crown the Tipsport Gamechanger Champion. Following the success of their inaugural tournament in 2023, which saw Bojan Velickovic crowned as the welterweight winner, 2024 is the time for OKTAGON MMA’s lightweights to shine.

Akonne ‘The Jedi’ Wanliss has made a big impression since signing with OKTAGON MMA, securing a first round KO on his debut as well as featuring as co-coach on the popular reality TV show, OKTAGON Challenge: England vs Ireland. His second fight ended in a no-contest, following an accidental low-blow.

The round of 16 will see Wanliss step into the cage to take on former Cage Warriors and KSW fighter, Sahil Siraj. Siraj will be looking to extend his win streak to three, and progress to the final eight of the biggest tournament in European MMA.

The fight will take place in Ostrava, on Saturday 2nd March. Current OKTAGON MMA lightweight and featherweight Champions, Ronald Paradeiser and Losene Keita will also feature on the card, in their respective round of 16 bouts in the tournament.

Akonne Wanliss said: “I am super, super excited about the Tipsport Gamechanger. It’s been a crazy year, trying to get fights, having so many ranked fighters refuse to fight me, but now I am in this tournament - something I was pushing for anyway - these guys can’t run from me anymore.

“See you at the top of the mountain.”
