Claressa Shields returns to the cage in October as she looks to achieve MMA glory in addition to boxing.

The second MMA fight of Claressa Shields’ career will take place on October 27 when she faces Abigail Montes at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Florida.

The 21-year-old Mexican brings an unbeaten record to the cage as she provides Shields with her hardest MMA task to date as the pair square off at the PFL World Championships.

Shields’ first appearance in MMA occurred back in June when she stopped Brittney Elkin in three rounds to get her cage career off to the perfect start.

The Flint native’s switch to MMA has received a wide range of attention and scrutiny as the two-time Olympic gold medal winner aims to reach the pinnacle of two sports.

Before MMA, Shields was arguably the best female boxer on the planet after capturing world titles in two weight divisions.

Trading the ring for the octagon has presented new challenges but Shields’ desire to be the best has not vanished. With aspirations to compete in both sports, Shields’ initial focus is on Montes, and the challenge she brings in October.
