The Irish fighter looked ahead to UFC 296.

Ian Machado Garry believes that Leon Edwards will “smash” Colby Covington when they meet at UFC 296.

Edwards is the current UFC welterweight champion and will face Covington in a defence of the belt.

Garry is a promising fighter making his way up the ranks of UFC, and speaking to Sporting Post, he suggested that Edwards would have little difficulty beating his opponent.

He said: “Leon is going to f—g smash Colby if they fight. Colby has zero striking, he just runs at you to grab a hold of you, gets you against the cage and takes you down to sit and lie on you. He's so un-entertaining in the Octagon, it's ridiculous.

“I've trained with Leon, I've seen the striking, wrestling and grappling. Leon is so crisp and so clean. And going off their previous fights, Colby lost to Usman twice. Usman lost to Leon twice, so I don't see any world where Covington beats Leon Edwards.

“I think Leon is going to defend all of his takedowns and stop him on the feet.”

Garry then predicted that should he ever meet Covington in the cage, he would bring the curtain down on his career.

He claimed: “I think he'll knock him out, and I absolutely am going to fight Colby at one stage of my career, and I am going to thump the mouth off him, and I promise you I will retire him.”
