The former UFC champion placed a surprise name in his rankings.

Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has named the fighters he would place in his top three UFC pound-for-pound rankings.

In the world of combat sports, pound-for-pound rankings is always a topic for passionate debate and the UFC is no different.

When speaking with Betway, there was no surprise who Bisping placed at number one, but there was an unlikely name who the MMA analyst believes should be up there as a top pound-for-pound talent.

"The general consensus is that Islam is pound per pound number one and the way he beat Volkanovski was impressive. If you beat number one in Volkanovski, I guess you then become the man," Bisping said.

"Jon Jones also comes into that conversation. I think Jones is the GOAT, but is he the pound-for-pound number one?

"He beat Cyril Gane last time, prior to that it was Dominic Reyes, and Thiego Santos, no disrespect to them but they weren't the big name champions like the Quintin Jackson's the Rashad Evans when Jon established his name, so for me the pound for pound is either Islam Mackhachev or Tom Aspinall.

"I've got Tom right up there as well. When you look at the skills he's got and how he's going straight through everybody. But I'd say Islam's number one, Aspinall is number two and Jon's number three based on current form."
