Oktagon 48: Elias Garcia is the new Oktagon flyweight champion after doctor calls off the fightDAZN
Elias Garcia makes history, albeit in underwhelming circumstances.

Elias Garcia is the first ever Oktagon flyweight champion after the cageside doctor was forced to call off the fight after the second round due to a cut near Aaron Aby's left eye.

This decision brought an abrupt end to what was brewing to be an exciting contest.

In the first round, Aby set the pace and managed to land a number of punches whilst also maintaining good distance control between him and Garcia.

Aby tried to implement his takedown game midway through the end, but Garcia managed to escape with a high knee which inflicted the cut.

It was clear that the cut was deep and immediately brought nerves to Aby's supporters in the AO Arena. The cut however did not deter Aby despite the bleeding as he took down Garcia in the closing stages of the first round, but his hammer fists failed to break the American's defence.

The second round was a more even affair as Aby looked to cope with the serious bleeding that was going into his left eye, the fact the Welshman was able to perform at a high level with an injury like that is something to be commended.

However, come the end of the second round, the doctor took another look at the cut and felt it was necessary to stop the fight before any further damage was done.

For Aby, it was a dissapointing end to what has been a tough journey to this point after battling a number of health problems, but once that cut has fully healed, expect Aby to be back challenging Garcia for Oktagon's flyweight belt.
