The first UFC PPV event of the year is in the books.
Two new UFC champions were crowned at UFC 297.
In the main event, Dricus du Plessis secured a split-decision win over the reigning champion Sean Strickland. The fight went all five rounds, and it was a bloody war. With the win, Du Plessis became the first UFC champion from South Africa.
There was probably no doubt about who the new champion would want next, former champion Israel Adesanya.
"There was another guy trying to take my shine," he said in his post-fight interview.
In the co-main event, the vacant women's bantamweight title was awarded to Raquel Pennington after she dismantled Mayra Bueno Silva for five rounds to cruise into a unanimous decision.
