The vacant lightweight championship is up for grabs in the main event of Ultimate Fighting Championship's latest major event, UFC 262.
Either Charles Oliveira or Michael Chandler will step out of the cage as the new champion, with the belt finally vacated due to Khabib Nurmagomedov's famous post-fight retirement after his final successful defence.
Chandler's UFC arrival has made immediate waves and he told MMA Fighting he wants to waste no time crowning himself a champ in the promotion.
“The people that say yes, the people that are willing to step up, the people that are willing to put the work in and raise their hand when everybody else is covering their heads up, those people are usually rewarded for it and the UFC has done right by me so far,” Chandler said.
“It’s been a pleasure to be signed by the UFC. It’s been a pleasure since day one and I imagine it’s going to be even more of a pleasure after I get that UFC title strapped around my waist.
“Charles is a salty, crafty veteran,” Chandler said of his opponent. “He’s a guy who’s been inside that octagon dozens of times now. He’s been in the octagon a lot of times. He’s got a lot of experience. He’s great on the ground. He’s shown to be improving on the feet. He’s dangerous everywhere. This is a dangerous fight. This is an exciting fight."
