One of Scott Dixon's favourite stops on the IndyCar Series is Toronto, as the New Zealander has won four times in the Canadian city.
His latest victory in the Ontario capital came Sunday, after he led the most laps at the 2022 Honda Indy Toronto. It was his first victory of the season, and first since May 2021. More importantly, the victory put Dixon on 52 career wins on the circuit — tied for second place with racing legend Mario Andretti behind all-time leader A.J. Foyt.
"It's amazing to be close to Mario," Dixon told NBC Sports after the race. "Every time I'm asked these questions I'm just so thankful that we still have A.J. and [Andretti} in the pits. We get to see them, we get to talk to them, it's just fantastic.
"It's huge. I feel so lucky to be a part of this group."
Andretti took to social media immediately following Sunday's race to congratulate Dixon, tweeting: "Utmost respect for my friend @scottdixon9 and truly happy to congratulate him on 52 wins. Also congratulate his team because nobody does it alone. I hope this is just a step on your continuing journey. Well done."
The win puts 41-year-old Dixon into fifth place in the 2022 driver standings with 307 points. Sweden's Marcus Ericsson leads with 351 points.
