Even NFL players need to know how to cook.
Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Chase Claypool learned that there can be too much of a good thing when preparing his own meal for DAZN's original series "Rookie Diaries."
This week, the Canadian wide receiver created a "vlog-style" episode in which he took viewers through a day in the life of a rookie in an NFL training camp, Actually, it was a couple of days as Claypool started the episode in his condo playing the latest "Madden" game and making breakfast for dinner prior to the following day's practice session.
Claypool explained that while the team usually provides chef-prepared meals throughout the week, on the weekends it's up to the players to fend for themselves in the kitchen. And so, the 22-year-old from Abbotsford, B.C., embarked on making some French toast.
After displaying some impressive egg-cracking skills, Claypool realized he had forgotten to add cinnamon.
So he did, but he ended up with an excessive amount of the spice in his meal.
"It was way too much cinnamon. It was way too much. Oh my goodness," Claypool said with a wince. "I feel like I did the cinnamon challenge in the French toast. When I put the cinnamon directly on the French toast while it was in the pan, it was not the play. We'll do better next time, though."
Kitchen nightmares aside, Claypool got himself to the Steelers' home venue the next morning without incident. With every visit to Heinz Field or the practice facility comes a COVID-19 test, and Claypool took the viewers with him as he completed the NFL's safety protocols before heading to team meetings.
The new normal includes a temperature check and a contact tracing device for everyone inside the facility, so it wouldn't be surprising to see those become a part of future episodes.
