The NFL's showcase event returns to the Sunshine State in 2021, as Super Bowl 55 is set for Tampa Bay with hometown flavour for the first time ever.
Thanks to Tom Brady and the Buccaneers claiming the NFC Championship, Tampa Bay will forever be known as the first Super Bowl in which a team will play at its home stadium. The Bucs face off against the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, who are going for back-to-back Vince Lombardi trophies after dominating the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship.
The Super Bowl returns to Florida for its second straight year, as Miami hosted the big game last season.
Here's what you need to know about the Super Bowl in 2021, the 55th edition of the biggest annual sporting event in the United States.
When is Super Bowl 55?
- Date: Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021
- Kickoff time: 6:30 p.m. ET
- Live stream: DAZN
For the third time in history, the Super Bowl will be played on Feb. 7. It's the latest the NFL's big game has been scheduled, and the 2021 installment joins Super Bowl 50 (Panthers vs. Broncos) and Super Bowl 44 (Saints vs. Colts) as those that were played on that date.
In Canada, the game will be live streamed on DAZN, which has access to NFL Game Pass, with every regular-season and playoff game available live and on demand.

Where is Super Bowl 55?
- City: Tampa, Fla.
- Stadium: Raymond James Stadium
Tampa wasn't supposed to host this edition of the Super Bowl — Raymond James Stadium was voted on by NFL owners as an alternative to LA's new SoFi Stadium, which was originally selected but will instead host Super Bowl 56.
In looking for a relatively last-minute replacement, the league turned to an old reliable city as Tampa has hosted four previous Super Bowls. This edition will be the third to be played at Raymond James Stadium, following Super Bowls 35 (2000) and 43 (2008).
The 65,618-seat stadium can be expanded to 75,000. It opened in 1998 and underwent a $100 million renovation that was completed in 2018.
According to the Raymond James Stadium website, the renovated venue has "the most advanced HD video system in use today." With 31,000 square feet of video display space (two 9,600 square-foot boards at the north and south end of the stadium, plus 2,300 square-foot tower walls), it ranks as the third largest video board system in the NFL.
The sound system has over 400 speakers throughout the stadium, providing 750,000 watts of power.
Super Bowl 55 odds
Unsurprisingly, the reigning champions are the favourites to repeat. BetMGM has the Chiefs as 3.5-point favourites at over the Buccaneers, with the over/under opening at 57.5.
Odds are, as always, subject to change.
Future Super Bowl locations, host sites
As is to be expected, the competition to host the Super Bowl is fierce, and the NFL's requirements for potential cities, their venues and their accommodations are extensive. Many factors are included when deciding on a host, including stadium quality and weather.
As such, it makes perfect sense why the recently-renovated Raymond James Stadium in Tampa would be chosen for the 2021 event, as the venue is up to par and the temperatures in Florida are pleasant in February.
Similar considerations have been made for future sites. Below are the venues the NFL has pinned as future Super Bowl locations.
Year | Super Bowl host site |
2021 | Tampa, Raymond James Stadium, Super Bowl 55 |
2022 | Los Angeles, SoFi Stadium, Super Bowl 56 |
2023 | Glendale, State Farm Stadium, Super Bowl 57 |
2024 | New Orleans, Mercedes-Benz Superdome, Super Bowl 58 |
